This coffeemaker uses cone filter, this is a thermal carafe, it is made by Gevalia and there are no replacement parts available.

Answer: 
No heat element in the bottom. The water is heated during the brewing process. This unit comes with a thermal carafe that should keep the coffee hot for at least 2 hours.
