Rated 3 out of 5 by Quality product. Poor design. This is a well made brewer with adequate brew speed and features but... My first few pots of coffee were undrinkable due to the plastic smell and taste. It took several dozen pots for this to finally go away completely. When you open the top after brewing, the condensation seems to always run down the underside and drip down the back and behind on the counter. The water tank fill slot is quite narrow and requires a steady hand and patience. January 5, 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by Is OK but doesn't last. I, too, have had problems with longevity. I have had two of these. One white and one black. Neither lasted more than 1 1/2 years before the heating element stopped working. I have had cheaper models that lasted a whole lot longer. While it does make great coffee, it is not so much better that I would want to keep buying a new one every 1 1/2 years. December 10, 2011
Rated 3 out of 5 by Great Coffee; Messy to add water We have had this coffee machine for a while. It makes great coffee! Love the timer! However, every time you fill it up with water, the condensation under the lid slides off towards the back and you have a wet counter top. Also, filling it with water using a Brita filtered-water pitcher is a tight squeeze. For this price, buy a better coffee machine. November 23, 2011
Rated 3 out of 5 by Comparable to others on market. It is more expensive than GE or Mr Coffee. I have gotten several of these via the free offers. The 1st one worked great and lasted several years. However the last 2 I have gotten have had to be returned due to leaking or just not working, i.e. slow to brew. I will not pay 99.99 for a automatic brewer so my next pot will be Mr Coffee,GE or Black and Decker. ALL good brands locally sold. November 4, 2011
Rated 2 out of 5 by Was great at first I bought this because the reviews said it made the hottest coffee. For awhile that was true, and I loved it. About a year later, the coffee became more lukewarm. My brother had the same problem, and his stopped working after the lukewarm phase, so I suspect mine is on the way out. Might as well just get one from the grocery store. It's cheaper and lasts longer. March 13, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Does not work after two months. This coffeemaker does make tasty coffee, and our family enjoyed it every morning for two months. And then it stopped work without any omen. The red light was on, but it did not MAKE coffee. I tried several times for several days then just gave up and threw it away. Of course, since I've got this for free from a promotion, so I am not planning to contact the customer service. But well, it was a disappointing experience with Gevalia. July 12, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by temperature This coffee maker doesn't brew very hot. Have to heat in microwave. This is the second pot I received and they both did the same thing. The first did it so I contacted Gevalia and they sent the second one with same results. Will just stay with store bought like Mr Coffee. March 2, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Yes and No I loved the coffee maker till one day it just quit! I guess it was the pump. Too bad. Anyone else have this problem? November 17, 2012
Rated 2 out of 5 by Coffeemaker died I received this coffee maker 14 months ago and have used it daily. It makes great coffee but as of today has already quit working. I am going to buy another type coffee maker that hopefully will be more durable and last longer. July 25, 2012
Rated 2 out of 5 by Close but no cigar The electronic portion of the maker ceased to function turning itself on and off when it feels like it. Caraffe hard to replace without buying from manufacturer. May 29, 2012
Rated 2 out of 5 by Good coffee...if any Definitely would go with the Classic compared to this one (which I had until I dropped the carafe on my tile floor). It's very difficult to pour water into the narrow opening on the top of the unit without spilling. I had mine for about a year and a half when it just quit working. It ran a few drops, then stopped and just sat and sputtered steam. Definitely not a good value, either: I purchased a Cuisinart to replace it for around $60 and it has more features and is easier to use. If you're buying from Gevalia, don't pick this model. March 6, 2012
Rated 2 out of 5 by Doesn't stop dripping Got the coffee maker free with a coffee purchase. After about 6 months, parts came loose from the filter and it no longer stops when I take the pot out to pour coffee. Minor inconvenience, but geez I really like the stop drip function on the coffee pot. I hate waiting for the coffee to finish brewing because it seems to take forever. Also, when I pour the water in it gets all over the place. It is not designed very well and needs some tweaking. But, it was free. What can one expect? February 29, 2012
Rated 2 out of 5 by I got this unit for 14.99 as an intro.offer The machine worked proper for 1 yr then the water leaked all over the counter top.It had gotten very hot also prior to leaking.I would not reccomend paying full price.I write this in hopes that the company will reengineer this product and improve the unit.I had to go and purchase Mr.Coffee maker for $40.00 from Walmart.I am prepared to buy a replacement in about a year.I hope maybe the next one could be a Gevalia coffee maker.I have had a 4 cup coffee maker Gevalia unit that I have had for 13yrs without any problems.I dnt use it because it dose'nt have a large enough capacity for all the coffee drinkers in my home now. February 19, 2012
Rated 2 out of 5 by Coffee & filters great. Coffee maker not so much! I have had several of these coffee makers and none of them worked very long. They just quit brewing or get to where they brew only half a pot and quit. The last one I have been using just quit and I have never had anyone suggest that the company will replace even the one I bought the last time I got one. The coffee prices are high and the coffee makers should be given out like they used to be. I will have to say that the coffee is wonderful and the filters work great. But the machines are disappointing to say the least. February 11, 2012
Rated 2 out of 5 by Poor longevity We joined just over a year ago. After about a month the first coffee maker quit working. Gevalia was great about replacing it; however, the new one just quit - about a year after we got it. Needless to say the warranty is expired. We love the coffee maker but it's not worth replacing every year or so... not at $100 a pop. I saw where someone said it was a user problem - getting coffee grounds in the water receptacle... however I know that is not our problem... coffee is carefully measured and not just "splashed" into the filter. Why it's quit we don't know... but the since this is the same thing that happened after our first one... it has to be something in the machine. As for the coffee... it's great and we loved it!! It's a good way to get different coffees that the local stores don't carry. December 27, 2011
Rated 2 out of 5 by brewer doesn't last my 2nd brewer just bit the dust. i informed G when my first one started having problems - cutoff at various times after brewing, cutoff while brewing, etc. they replaced it within a few days. i didn't even ask for a new brewer. the 2nd one worked perfectly until one morning it just wouldn't turn on. SO, i informed G just like i did the first time. response - check your warranty. we'll be glad to sell you another one. i think i can find a similar quality brewer for a lot less than $99. December 16, 2011
Rated 2 out of 5 by breaks i have had 2 of these and both stop working after a short time of use. i have a bunn since 1994 and it still rock n rolls. i think they should have free replacement if you buy their coffee being that the coffee is so pricey. November 27, 2011
Rated 2 out of 5 by Lasts about 1 year If you're not extremely careful about audibly snapping the lid shut the basket overflows. It also cannot be used as a pause and brew ever: both scenerios ruin the keeps hot plate. the lid doesn't fit the caraffe well either and dribbling onto the counter while pouring should be expected. November 23, 2011
Rated 1 out of 5 by this product has one poor feature This is my second coffee maker by Gevalia and both have the same flaw. After some use the floating red ball that indicates the water level , no longer rises - even after cleaning the unit a few times. Sometimes if you tap the reservoir a few times it might make the ball rise a bit but it is very unpredictable. October 8, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by Junk This coffee maker came free so I was not expecting too much. That being said, it lasted only two days.... when you fill up the coffee maker with 12 cups of clean, fresh water, the coffee maker only produces 6 cups of filtered coffee, the rest is lost in steam, not to forget it takes 15 minutes to get those 6 cups. September 23, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by Design Flaws Require Constant Cleaning This coffee maker is just a bad design. There is a reason it is bundled free for new customers. I pitty anyone who actually PAID for this brewer. The design flaws make this brewer one to avoid. No wonder you can find them on the shelves of Goodwill or Salvation Army stores for $10 in like new condition. Here are my gripes, in no particular order... 1) The carafe does not easily return under the brew basket without a special angle and a bit of luck. The spring loaded dispenser at the bottom of the brew basket does not like to lift up for the carafe if you try and put the pot back in straight. 2) The LCD on the brewer for the clock and timer has no backlight. It is difficult to read without bending over to get a straight on look at it. Forget trying to set a timer in low light. There is also no backup battery so you must reset the clock anytime you unplug the unit. Typically I unplug my counter top appliances when not in use, so this is an annoyance. A smiple watch battery would keep the clock alive for at least a year or more. 3) The water tank has a very small and narrow opening so pouring in your water to brew must be done slowly or you will slop it all over. It can be done easily, it's just a slow process. I feel like you have to trickle the water in. 4) The worst part of the design is the top. In order to remove the brew basket and filter to dispose of the grounds, you must lift the top up. The problem is that in the process of brewing, there is a lot of condensation that collects on the lid. As soon as you lift the lid, even a little, all that condensate drips down the back of the coffee maker. You have to hold a towel to the back of the unit EVERY TIME to avoid having to wipe the unit down. Even if you let it sit for an hour or two after brewing, the condensate is still there and will run down the back and under the unit. 5) The area above the carafe has no venting. No matter how you position the carafe, there is no way for the steam to vent out from under the "shelf" above. This makes a bit of condensation above the carafe that also must be wiped down every use. Of course, this condensate drips onto the warmer as soon as you remove the carafe, making it hard to keep clean as well. Combine these design flaws with a 15 minute brew time and you have no good reason to want this brewer. You pretty much have to wipe the unit down completely after every use unless you want it all crusty in a couple of months. My brewer is going to Goodwill this weekend. Look for a detailed product review on YouTube soon... September 12, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by Lid malfaction The first thing to go on this coffee maker was the lid on the top of the machine. The hinge wears out and breaks. Very annoying as by the time this happens the warranty is gone. The only way to solve this dilemna is to either put up with it or buy a new one. September 11, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by HORRIBLE!!! DON'T BUY! I've had 3 of these in the last 3 years and they have all stopped working. Not worth the money. I will NEVER buy a Gevalia coffee maker again! February 20, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by stainless 12 cup Iv had 2 now . First one lasted a year. Second one lasted 4 months. It was the $99 dollar one. Stainless steel. clock, tlimer etc. I liked it if it would have lasted.. November 26, 2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by Not as good as my previous Gevalia Stainless Coffee Maker I purchased a Stainless Coffee Maker from Gevalia five or six years ago and LOVED it! I only purchased a new one (this one) because my son accidentally dumped some coffee grounds in the water reservoir and I could never get them all out. So, I bought this one, thinking it's be just as good. Boy was I was wrong. The "improvements" they have made, aren't really improvements at all! 1. The old filter basket was far better. It had a handle for pulling it out of the coffee maker and had a flat bottom so you could set it on the counter when filling it with coffee grounds. 2. The old top had a separate flap you opened to pour water into the reservoir. With the new design, you have to open the entire top which causes the water, which has accumulated on the inside of the lid, to pour down the back of the coffee maker and onto the counter. So, every time you make a pot of coffee, you have to clean up the water behind the coffee maker. 3. With the old carafe, when you pulled it out while the coffee was still brewing, the coffee would stop coming out until you put the carafe back in. With the new one, it drips unless the pot has completely finished brewing. And, yes, I am making sure the filter basket is in fully and the correct direction, it still drips every time. 4. This lid design on the carafe causes water (when filling the reservoir) and coffee (when pouring into a mug) to run down the front of the pot onto the counter. I have found that you have to pour VERY slowly to prevent this. I have been drinking and pouring coffee for over 15 years now, and have NEVER had a carafe do that. Bottom line: I would NOT purchase this coffee maker again. If I could get another one just like my last one, I would buy it again in a heartbeat!! October 30, 2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by loved it while it worked It has been about 14 months and my beloved coffee maker has died. It was not over used, i seldomely used it. My husband plugged it up to brew us some coffee and it did not turn on. No lights came on, it did not make a sound. :~( October 26, 2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by ANGRY i ordered this thing thinking it was going to fit my coffe brewer and it doesnt completely different pot for my maker as a matter of fact i cant seem to find my coffer brewer on here i am very upset i love this machine :( August 11, 2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by bad coffeemaker after having the coffee maker for a few months it stopped working...didn't use everyday and cleaned per specifications...made 6-8 cups at a time so didn't under or over use...coffee however is great. May 24, 2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by poor quality glad it was free The coffee brewer was free with my sign up, however it quit working not long after I got it. I did purchase a different model with a removeable water resevoir/filter. I cannot find replacement water filter to change it out. February 19, 2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by New, but doesn't work! First of all I ordered a new carafe for a Gevalia brewer I already had. That carafe was not the right size for the brewer. As they no longer have that brewer in stock, the only thing I could do was order a new brewer. It's the one shown here. However, I have only had the new one for 6 weeks and already it does not work. Initially, the water did not go through the grounds to the pot. All I got was a lot of steam and maybe a half cup of coffee. I cleaned it to see if something was clogged even though it was essentially new. It worked for a day or so. Now the heating element is evidently broken because the lights go on but nothing happens at all. Don't buy it. You are wasting your money. February 12, 2012
