White Ceramic Canister is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good product I loved the old canisters with the hinged lid, but bought one of these when the white one we had for many years finally broke. Didn't expect to like this one as well, but it's better. Very nice appearance, with classic lines and tight seal on the lid. Hope Gevalia will continue to carry the china canisters for those of us who prefer a more traditional look and will have some different colors. Am ordering a second one today, just to have on hand.

How long can you store gevalia coffee and teas?

Asked by: classlady4
Hello, Unopened boxes of Gevalia tea should be stored at ambient conditions in the home. At ambient conditions, unopened boxes of Gevalia Tea have a shelf-life of 2 years and opened boxes (where inner gold foil is re-closed after each use via rubberband, paperclip, or proper fold re-closure) have a useable life of six months. For coffee Special precaution must be taken when storing to reduce the chance of oxygen and moisture coming in contact with the coffee. When you expose coffee to air, it begins to lose its freshness and develops unpleasant, stale notes. In the processing of Gevalia, we have spent millions of dollars to all but totally eliminate the effect of oxygen on the coffee. Before Opening, unflavored grounds would stay good for 15 months and whole bean and flavored grounds will stay good for 12 months. Once opened Grounds or Whole beans would stay good for 2 to 3 weeks in an air tight canister.

Freezer storage

Would storing opened packages that have been sealed in freezer proof containers last more than the 2-3 weeks you referenced in the prior answer to coffee storage? I have several different flavors of Gevalia and would like the option of brewing different flavors throughout the week and/or day. Would storing the ceramic canister in the refrigerator rather than on the countertop extend the life of the coffee and it's freshness?
Asked by: geegeenancy
Yes, the coffee will still taste fresh much longer than the expiration date. I do this all the time. Don't put your canisters in the refrigerator or freezer, as the metal parts will rust. The rubber gaskets can also crack if they are frozen. I found this out the hard way. :)
